I live in Australia so buying a sat nav from you is of no use because I need maps of this country, not the US and Canada. Your prices look good compared to what we have to pay here. Why don’t you offer units preloaded with maps of the countries being sold to – you might get a lot more sales.

Don’t tell me I could download local maps from the internet, I know that, but what a nuisance to have to bother doing that.

  2. I was supposed to receive a FREE MAGELLAN TRAFFIC LINK when ordering the MAGELLAN ROADMATE 1470 by April 30. I ordered on April 7. DID NOT RECEIVE IT!!! I like the compact size of the 1470. However, I find it harder to use while driving than my old Magellan RoadMate 760, especially, the volume control. The touch screen means you have to take your eye off the road much more than I did with my older one. I prefer a male voice giving directions, and had a choice of male or female on the 760; but not on the 1470. To be fair, I haven’t used it that much, yet, so maybe when I get used to it I will like it better.

A LITTLE MORE ENGINEERING EFFORT AND THE STREET NAMING COULD BE LEFT OUT WHEN WANTED. THIS WOULD HAVE MADE THIS GPS GREAT. WHO WANTS TO HEAR STREET NAME 3 TIMES IN A SPAN OF 45 SECONDS. IF I COULD JUST ELIMINATE STREET NAMING, AND LEAVE DIRECTION VOICE ON THIS WOULD BE A SUPER DOOPER GPS.

FOR THIS REASON I RETURNED THE GPS.

Fragile products. Screen cracked spontaneously in mild PA temps. Curt, rude company employees offer no explination as to the indurability of their product.

All of the reviews on the Roadmate series GPS devices deal with their capabilities, mine has to do with their service. My 760 was out of the warranty period as a result of me storing the unit in a drawer in my bedroom! For almost one year I had GPS through my cell phone, so the 760 was not used. When I changed Cell carriers, I decided to pull out the old 760 and use it again. The down time in the drawer was enough to “kill it”. As soon as I plugged it in, I got a blue screen saying “too cold.” That message never went away. I called Magellan customer service and they said, sorry, we understand that you stored the unit in your drawer, but it’s now out of warranty, we don’t have any upgrades for your unit, you can buy another through our “customer loyalty” program, which I quickly found out was more expensive than buying the same unit right here on Amazon! What hurt me so badly, was the fact that I had paid several hundred dollars for mine, before the prices dropped so much on GPS units, and Magellan knew how much I paid, and they would not help me in any way, other than say, buy another through their “customer loyalty” program, which was no help at all, as the same unit can be purchased for less most anywhere on the Internet.

Just be informed, if you buy Magellan, and go over that warranty period, no matter what the circumstances, there are absolutely NO exceptions, you are dead in the water, as their customer loyalty program is of no value to the customer at all. They quote list prices that no one sells GPS devices for, for the sake of appearing to be helpful. I paid enough for my Magellan 760 to purchase several of their newer models, but they would not take that into consideration, so I loose. I hope you don’t loose as well. A company is only as good as their customer service, and I can assure you, there was no customer service for me! Is there anyone out there that would like a nice 760 Roadmate with no scratches, perfect condition, other than it only gives a blue screen that says “too cold”?
